My Story

Learning to control our thoughts and be mindful of how we talk to ourselves is a simple but very effective tool for building self-confidence and self-esteem. With The Big Book of I AMs, children will learn powerful affirmations they can use daily to practice positive self-talk.

“I’ve always loved creating art, but I wanted to start doing more with it - expanding my creations to share with others to make them smile,”

says Vanshika Khaitan, third-year health sciences student at McMaster University and freelance artist. Her past freelance work included live event painting, logo, and painting commissions. Check out her past work here:

Upon graduating, Robyn Allaby, her former High School VP and children’s book author, reached out to Vanshika with the offer to illustrate her new book.

“I had a lot of freedom during the illustration process. Instead of illustrating for a pre-written story, I was illustrating with my own intentions, and the text adapted to fit the illustrations,”

says Vanshika. She focused on themes of diversity and inclusion by incorporating characters of all shapes, sizes, colours, and abilities.

After 2 years of work, the book was released in June 2022. It is being sold on Amazon and Chapters. Vanshika is currently illustrating a second children's book, You Belong Always, with has similar themes of inclusivity and diversity. In the future, Vanshika hopes to author and illustrate her own children’s book.
